42.com.pk came out of the common love for t shirts. Not only is it the perfect article of clothing; comfortable and simple it also allows you to advertise your thoughts without your having to say them out loud! The thoughts you have, which people might find offensive when said, can be announced to the world on a T shirt and people MAY find them amusing!

Some of you have asked “why 42″ well this is a salute to Douglas Adams (author of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) and how 42 is the answer….
It may be the ultimate answer to life, universe and everything…which leads to “but what is the question?”…read the book and ye shall see!

In addition, part of the proceeds from the sales of these T shirts will go towards local charities.

We have since our first iteration of T shirts, where we were supporting Karwan-e-Hayat, (www.keh.org.pk)  a Karachi based rehabilitation center for the mentally diseased, moved on to a new project that we would like to support through the sale of these T shirts.

This time it is a new vocational school opening in Karachi on March 1st 2009 for low income high school graduates who may be able to learn skills such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical wiring, motor cycle repair, refrigeration and air conditioning repair and maintenance.

Many young high school graduates feel disillusioned and alienated when they leave school and find no college openings available to them. Instead of allowing young minds to go to waste or to fall prey to drugs and depression, a vocational training allows them to develop a skill set which they can go on to use. This way they have skills and a ways to earn a decent living.

Each course runs for 4 months with”hands on” training in the lab along with theory classes. These 4 months are then followed by 2 months of interning at a workshop related to their field of study so that the students are exposed to real world dynamics.

The Karigar Vocational Training Center is at present seeking donations so that the cost of the course may be subsidized for the students. This way the cost of the course is not a deterrent for those who may be considering this route / career.

Also, we are trying to raise funds for the lunch program, such that the children are not under financial duress and can get a decent meal while on campus so as to not hinder their learning.
